Shigure zome is sometimes also known as Shigure zono. This cultivar is from the matsumurae group. Not widely known even though it has been cultivated in Japan since the 1700s.
In Spring leaf color starts out as a bright purplish-red. In Summer this turns more greenish with red tones. Hardy, this forms an upright tree reaching 12 feet tall at maturity. Plants are 18-24" tall.
