Another in the deeply divided red leaf 'matsumurae' group. New leaves open purple-red and turn pale crimson. Does not color well in shade. Turns bronzy-green in summer and bright crimson in fall.
Somewhat cascading in form - but not as strongly as other cultivars. Makes a mound like shrub up to 10 feet tall and wide. Often used in containers and in bonsai cultivation. Plants are 12-18" tall.
