Bloodgood is one of the best known red leaf Japanese maple trees. Bloodgood is considered to be more heat tolerant than many red leaf Japanese maple trees.
Bloodgood has large red leaves and is an upright growing Japanese maple tree, reaching 30 feet on maturity. It grows into a broad topped tree with a spead about equal to its height. Fall colors of Bloodgood are a bright crimson.
Bloodgood has a good deep red color that holds up well into the Summer with less "bronzing" than many Japanese maple tree cultivars. Like most palmatums, some afternoon shade is beneficial to prevent sunburn.
Leaves of Bloodgood are typically palmatum shaped and the fruits have a prominent bright red color which adds to the beautiful appearance of this excellent red Japanese maple tree in the garden landscape.
