It has brilliant red leaves which start out pink and darken to a bright crimson. Older foliage is a greenish red with criimson edges. Fall color is scarlet.

Forms a small bush up to 9 feet tall. One of the most choice Japanese maples and not well known in garden use. Its name means ''beautiful red-haired little girl''.
